President Search


The President is the Chief Executive Officer of The Schools of Saint Mary (SOSM), reporting directly to the Pastor who serves as the ultimate and canonical leader. The President takes direction and approval from the Pastor and has an Advisory School Board whose purpose is to give guidance in all school related items. The President has as an administrative team who reports directly to the President: the Principals, Director of Development/Alumni, and Director of Marketing/Communications. The team also includes the Parish Controller who reports directly to the Pastor.

The President’s primary (but not exclusive) areas of responsibilities include:

  1. Mission and Catholic Identity
  2. Institutional Advancement
  3. Development /Finances
  4. Alumni Relations
  5. Strategic Planning
  6. Communications (internal/external)
  7. Public relations via constituent base, Parish, and the greater community
  8. Enrollment management (retention and new admission)
  9. All School Board related matters

Other areas include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that all aspects of The Schools of Saint Mary are aligned with the Roman Catholic teachings and the charism of the educational founders, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Marist Brothers
  • Represents the SOSM to the community at large and communicates the school’s mission, vision, and strategic plans to various constituent groups
  • Mentor, supervise and evaluate the elementary and high school principals
  • Serves as the public spokesperson for the school and is the person who communicates with the school’s external public, including but not limited to: Diocese of Rockville Centre, news media, accrediting agencies, alumni and local communities
  • Responsible for clear, consistent and current communications among the Pastor and Parish Finance Council on all budgetary matters
  • Evaluates and assesses strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for The Schools of Saint Mary that will be in alignment of the SOSM’s overall mission, vision, and strategic plan
  • Implements strategic short and long-term planning focused on academic excellence, fiscal sustainability, recruitment and enrollment, and high school and college placement
  • Works in concert with the principals in establishing measurable goals to determine the schools’ achievements in strategically identified areas
  • Responsible for the overall productivity and work of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations
  • Responsible for the overall productivity of the Office of Marketing and Communications
  • Serves as ex-officio member of the Board cultivating strong School Board candidates within the guidelines of the School Boards’ by-laws, facilitates board agenda and reports prior to each scheduled board meeting

• Practicing Roman Catholic with a strong proven commitment to the principles of Catholic education
• Experience  in academic leadership, curriculum, and instructional supervision
• Experience in visionary/strategic planning
• Proven success in development and fundraising
• Exceptional public and community relations abilities

• Advanced degree with a minimum of eight years of leadership experience
