The Season of Advent and Christmas Spirit Abound at St. Mary’s

Advent wreaths were made, candles lit, prayer services conducted and four weeks of joyful anticipation of Christ’s birth filled the hearts and minds of students at The Schools of St. Mary. The annual preparation leading to the anniversary of Jesus’ birthday enables children to examine the pillars of the season: love, peace, joy, and hope with Christ always at the center. Through projects and devotions, the experiences shared during the season bring further understanding to the meaning of Christmas. Students across campus participated in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s annual Toy Drive and a Veterans Collection for the Northport VA. The High School Chamber Choir performed for long-term cancer patients in North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset while Chamber Music students traveled to St. Michael’s in the Bronx to play for retired Marist Brothers and ate lunch with them. Service projects at local soup kitchens along with visits to nursing homes were also among the many displays of the Gospel values lived out this December. Both schools held their Christmas Concerts filling the air with Christmas cheer and prayerful melodies. A well-attended Breakfast with Santa was a highlight for our Elementary School families along with the traditional Advent Day of Prayer held at Our Lady of Grace. From all of us at The Schools of Saint Mary, we wish you a blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year!
