Students Have a Ball at Junior-Senior Prom

There was dancing, laughter, and fun as 13 Saint Mary’s High School juniors visited the Manhasset Valley Senior Residence recently for a “Junior-Senior Prom.” The students, who are encouraged by their teachers and administrators to participate in service within their school as well as local community, attended to assist Maggie Cannatella, a Church of St. Mary parishioner who organized the event as a Girl Scout project. The St. Mary’s students presented their senior guests with wrist corsages and boutonnieres, everyone enjoyed refreshments, and Bryan Wodarczak of Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Manhasset came by to teach the senior residents and students a couple of dances, including the foxtrot and swing. The St. Mary’s students also performed one of the dance routines from one of the school’s Performing Arts productions. Religious studies chairperson Larry Kupferman, who chaperoned the event, noted that in the end, everyone had such a wonderful time that St. Mary’s plans to make this event an annual tradition with the Town of North Hempstead Housing Authority.

The St. Mary’s students who participated were Nadia Ferguson, Ariana Warner, Melissa Cairo, Jasmine Harris, Linton Thomas, Isabel Vasquez, Sabrina Vee, Christopher Molines, Daniella Demosthene, Olivia Holt, MaryAngelina Romano, Daniel Carley and Laura Toscano.
