Student Profile: Dajiah Martin, Class of 2017

Dajiah Martin, a member of Saint Mary’s High School’s graduating Class of 2017, will spend her college career continuing one of her high school passions – playing basketball. “Playing basketball at St. Mary’s was the best,” noted Miss Martin, who has committed to playing basketball at St. Peter’s College in the fall. “It taught me a lot. My favorite part was probably creating a bond with the team and showing the crowd that when we were on the court.”

Miss Martin recently received All-Long Island honors for her skills and dedication on the basketball court. She was one of 15 students named as a 2017 All-Long Island Girls Basketball Honorable Mention. “St. Mary’s shaped me to develop a better working habit,” she continued. “It taught me how to maintain all of my classes and work and still be able to play basketball. When I came to St. Mary’s, I got welcomed in with open arms and met some of my best friends today.”

She encouraged incoming members of St. Mary’s Class of 2021 “to work hard. Even when you want to give up, don’t, because finishing up high school and walking across the stage will be the best feeling.”

As for her own future, “at St. Peter’s, I’m just looking to grow and be a better me,” Miss Martin noted. “I hope to bring all that I have, everything that St. Mary’s taught me, and wait for St. Peter’s to teach me even more.”
