St. Mary’s Boys & Girls Move to the Head of the Class

St. Mary’s Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Basketball programs both moved into first place in the  NSCHSAA with impressive wins over St. Anthony’s HS.

The Lady Gaels beat the nationally ranked Friars at Immaculata Hall, 58-56 to take over sole possession of first place.  Lead by junior Jordan Augustus’ 18 points and Charlotte Renker’s double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, St. Mary’s overcame a ten point 3rd quarter deficit to rally for the win.  Mei-Lyn Bautista was instrumental in leading the coming back, scoring 13 points while dishing out 6 assists.

 Coming up the Lady Gaels take to the road with a non league game against out of state powerhouse Capital Prep of Conneticut and away league games against St John the Baptist,  Holy Trinity, and St. Dominics.

The varsity boy’s team won their third league game in a row, beating St. Anthony’s HS on the road 60-59. Steve Milhaven, recently honored by Newsday as an athlete of the week , scored 25 points.  In the last three wins Milhaven has averaged 30 points and 10 rebounds per game. 

 Since the new year sophomore Damani Myers has averaged 10 assists,  junior Patrick Jackson has averaged nearly 20 points, and freshman center Nick Richards has excelled on the defensive end averaging over 10 rebounds.

The Gaels have upcoming league games against St. Dominics and St. John the Baptistf while also preparing for major challenges in their non league schedule.
