Dr. Joseph R. McCleary Installed as President

Joseph McCleary, Ph.D. was installed as the second president of The Schools of Saint Mary on Sunday, Oct. 22 during the 12:00 Noon Mass at the Church of St. Mary. Parishioners, students, faculty, administrators and members of the local community attended both the Mass and the reception that followed to meet and congratulate Dr. McCleary. Father Jiha Lim, St. Mary’s parochial vicar and chaplain to The Schools of Saint Mary, celebrated the installation Mass and officially welcomed Dr. McCleary into the St. Mary’s family. “It’s only been about two months since he arrived in our parish and school community, but he has made so many positive additions already,” noted Father Jiha. “I see him greeting the children as they are dropped off in the morning, and he’s out there worrying about traffic, trying to make sure the children are safe. I see enthusiasm and passion that inspire me as a priest, as well.”

Town of North Hempstead’s Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Town Clerk, Wayne Wink along with New York State Assemblyman and past St. Mary’s High School parent, Anthony D’Urso all stopped by the reception in the Marian Room after Mass to congratulate Dr. McCleary on his appointment.

“To be a part of this welcome today is indeed an honor,” Dr. McCleary noted while speaking at the reception.  “Human beings are unlike God’s other creations in that they take a great deal of time to reach maturity. Well into the second decade of their lives, young people are still preparing for the great work of their lives. Of course, this preparation primarily falls to the mothers and the fathers, but it necessarily includes the help of many others and schools are prominent among those others. I’ve been teaching in schools and leading schools for over 35 years. During that time, I’ve had the occasion to meet many former pupils, now adults. This has been a delight because it provided some glimpse of the real fruit of working in schools. The product of schools is a person, a mortal being made in God’s image and likeness. For God, there are no children of mine and other people’s children. Everyone is part of the family. Schools and the communities that support them are like that. Together, we are engaged in the great work of bringing creation to fulfillment. So thank you again for the opportunity to be a part of this community. Thank you for your support as we work to build up the next generation, the greatest legacy that anyone can hope to leave behind in life. I also want to thank our Lord, because He is the creator and the Redeemer, and without Him, we could do nothing, but with Him, everything is possible.”
