AP Art History Goes to the MET

This past December 10 the students of AP Art History traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. To supplement the vast works of art they are learning about in the classroom, the budding art historians were able to experience sculptures in the round, the appearance of oil painting techniques up close, and rooms from Ancient Rome to Neo-Classical France.

The field trip was also specifically planned for December 10 so the students could view the Metropolitan Museum’s Christmas tree and Neapolitan crèche. The 20 foot Christmas tree is decorated with 50 angels dressed in silk robes of many colors and the base of the tree is an elaborate crèche from 18th century Naples.

The students were awed and inspired by the beauty around them demonstrated in the masterpieces displayed at the museum, and their spirits were lifted by the entire experience.
